It's very interesting that people play tug of war in ethnic costume.
The card said it's the pancake festival.

According to Wiki, it's a festival called Maslenitsa,  an Eastern Slavic religious and folk holiday, celebrating the imminent end of the winter.

The other website described that pancake is a symbol of sun because both of them are round, gold and warm.

Now I understand how come it is called the pancake festival.
